Senator Passidomo Files Repeal of Taxes on Feminine Products

Tallahassee–Senator Kathleen Passidomo (R-Naples) has filed Senate Bill 176, repealing taxes on feminine products in Florida.

“This is a common sense issue,” said Senator Passidomo. “Florida law imposes a sales tax on luxury items. These products are certainly not a luxury but a basic necessity and as such, we should stop taxing them. Over the last several years I have received thousands of emails from women from all over the state asking for tax relief on these products and I am happy to sponsor this bill in the Florida Senate.”

A preliminary review by Senate staff estimates that this legislation will reduce the tax burden on Florida’s women by $15 million. Five other states currently exempt these products: Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Maryland, and New Jersey.  In 2015, Canada exempted these items nationwide.
