Senator Stewart Grieves Again in Response to the Santa Fe High School Shooting
ORLANDO – “I am standing again with those whose lives and families are shattered once more because gun violence is too prevalent. The killings today remind us that laws play a critical role in our children’s safety, and are woefully inadequate to keep them from the dangers they now confront.
“While the types of weapons used in the Santa Fe shooting and the Parkland and Pulse massacres may have been different, the results are, tragically, the same. Unless and until lawmakers statewide and nationally recognize the lethal consequences to our citizens of too many guns allowed in too many hands, nothing will change. Imagine the lives we could have saved had “thoughts and prayers” translated into actual action and deeds after Columbine.
“To that end, I remain committed to working again on stronger regulations, common sense gun safety laws, stronger application processes for gun owners and universal background checks for all Floridians. They will be among the first bills I file for the 2019 legislative session.”
