  1                    Senate Resolution No.     

  2         A resolution recognizing the state's forest

  3         products industry and commending the creation

  4         of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, Floridians have always taken great pride in

  7  our state's rich bounty of natural resources, and the careful

  8  stewardship of these precious assets is essential if future

  9  generations are to benefit from those resources, and

10         WHEREAS, the Florida forest products industry, in

11  recognition of its stewardship responsibilities in nurturing

12  the forest resource, has committed itself to the principle of

13  sustainable forestry by initiating the Sustainable Forestry

14  Initiative to promote, educate, train, and monitor adherence

15  to sustaining the forest resource for future generations, and

16         WHEREAS, the Sustainable Forestry Initiative is a

17  self-regulatory program based on the responsible environmental

18  stewardship of the forests, water resources, and wildlife, and

19         WHEREAS, an essential component of the Florida economy,

20  the forest products industry comprises more than 39,000

21  employees, and

22         WHEREAS, the vital importance of the industry

23  underscores the necessity for intelligent management of the

24  state's more than 16 million acres of forest land, NOW,

25  THEREFORE,

27  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

28

29         That the Florida Senate recognizes and commends the

30  forest products industry for its commitment to responsible use
