11  The Committee on Education (Lynn) recommended the following
12  amendment:
13  
14         Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 
15         On page 80, line 10, after the second period,
16  
17  insert:  Alternative schools serving students who are subject
18  to school board policies for expulsion for repeated or serious
19  offenses, dropout retrieval programs serving students who have
20  officially been designated as dropouts, and Department of
21  Juvenile Justice operated and contracted programs shall not
22  receive a school grade as described in 1008.34. Schools
23  meeting this definition shall be rated on a scale approved by
24  the State Board of Education that represents the progress of
25  students as compared to their progress prior to being assigned
26  to the alternative schools. The schools that serve multiple
27  populations will receive a school grade absent the performance
28  of students subject to expulsion or dropout if the schools
29  meet the minimum requirements regarding the number of students
30  with valid FCAT scores. Each school shall receive a school
31  improvement rating of "improving," "maintaining," or
