  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing April 10, 2005, as

  3         "Professional Golfers' Association of America

  4         Day" in Florida.

  5  

  6         WHEREAS, the Professional Golfers' Association of

  7  America (PGA) was founded in New York City on April 10, 1916,

  8  with 35 charter members and, today, is the world's largest

  9  working sports organization, comprising more than 28,000 male

10  and female professionals who are dedicated to the growth of

11  the game of golf, and

12         WHEREAS, the headquarters of PGA of America, commonly

13  known as PGA National, has been located in Palm Beach County

14  since March 17, 1965, and recently celebrated 40 years in Palm

15  Beach County, and

16         WHEREAS, the PGA hosts one of the preeminent events of

17  all sports, the Ryder Cup Matches, a tournament that, since

18  its inception in 1927, has been held every 2 years almost

19  without exception, and

20         WHEREAS, attracting large numbers of out-of-state

21  visitors as well as countless residents, the more than 1,300

22  golf courses in Florida are major contributors to the economy

23  and well-being of the state, generating substantial revenues,

24  providing employment for thousands, raising property values,

25  and protecting and enhancing the environment, and

26         WHEREAS, the golf industry in Florida makes enormous

27  contributions to a wide range of community and charitable

28  organizations, conducts junior golf camps for tens of

29  thousands of youngsters, holds the Special Olympics National

30  Golf Tournament and the National Minority College Golf

31  Championship, and conducts community outreach programs that

 1  afford anyone who desires the opportunity to enjoy the game of

 2  golf, NOW, THEREFORE,

 3  

 4  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

 5  

 6         That April 10, 2005, is recognized as "Professional

 7  Golfers' Association of America Day" in Florida, the PGA of

 8  America is commended for its promotion of the game of golf and

 9  the resultant positive impact on the state, and residents and

10  visitors alike are urged to take an afternoon and enjoy a

11  round of golf.
