  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to nursing services; amending

  3         s. 395.0191, F.S.; requiring certain nurses to

  4         be present in operating rooms and function as

  5         circulating nurses during all operative or

  6         invasive procedures; defining the term

  7         "circulating nurse"; providing an effective

  8         date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12         Section 1.  Paragraph (d) is added to subsection (2) of

13  section 395.0191, Florida Statutes, to read:

14         395.0191  Staff membership and clinical privileges.--

15         (2)

16         (d)  A registered nurse licensed under part I of

17  chapter 464 and qualified by training and experience in

18  operating room nursing shall be present in the operating room

19  and function as the circulating nurse during all operative or

20  invasive procedures. For the purposes of this paragraph, the

21  term "circulating nurse" means a registered nurse who is

22  responsible for coordinating all nursing care, patient safety

23  needs, and the needs of the surgical team in the operating

24  room during an operative or invasive procedure.

25         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2006.
