  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to perjury; creating s.

  3         837.051, F.S.; providing a penalty for

  4         knowingly and willfully giving false

  5         information to a law enforcement officer who is

  6         in the course of conducting a felony or

  7         missing-person investigation with the intent to

  8         mislead the officer or impede the

  9         investigation; providing an effective date.

11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12  

13         Section 1.  Section 837.051, Florida Statutes, is

14  created to read:

15         837.051  False information to law enforcement officer

16  during investigation.--Whoever knowingly and willfully gives

17  false information to a law enforcement officer who is

18  conducting a missing person investigation or felony criminal

19  investigation with the intent to mislead the officer or impede

20  the investigation commits a misdemeanor of the first degree,

21  punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.

22         Section 2.  This act shall take effect October 1, 2006.

24          STATEMENT OF SUBSTANTIAL CHANGES CONTAINED IN
                       COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR
25                         Senate Bill 1418

27  Provides that it is a first degree misdemeanor for a person to
    knowingly and willfully give false information to a law
28  enforcement officer who is conducting a missing person
    investigation or felony criminal investigation with the intent
29  to mislead the officer or impede the investigation.
