  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the Florida School

  3         Recognition Program; amending s. 1008.36, F.S.;

  4         specifying conditions under which a school that

  5         is part of a school feeder pattern and does not

  6         receive a school grade under s. 1008.34, F.S.,

  7         may participate in the program; prescribing the

  8         circumstances in which a school feeder pattern

  9         exists; providing an effective date.

11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12  

13         Section 1.  Subsection (3) of section 1008.36, Florida

14  Statutes, is amended to read:

15         1008.36  Florida School Recognition Program.--

16         (3)  All public schools, including charter schools,

17  that receive a school grade pursuant to s. 1008.34 are

18  eligible to participate in the program. For the purposes of

19  this section, a school that serves any combination of students

20  in kindergarten through grade 3 and that does not receive a

21  school grade under s. 1008.34 shall be assigned the school

22  performance grade of the feeder pattern school designated by

23  the Department of Education and verified by the school

24  district and is eligible to participate in the program based

25  upon that feeder pattern school. A school feeder pattern

26  exists if at least 60 percent of the students in the school or

27  schools serving a combination of students in kindergarten

28  through grade 3 are scheduled to be assigned to the school

29  that receives the school grade. In addition, the feeder

30  pattern school is subject to the Opportunity Scholarship

31  Program as described in s. 1002.38.

 1         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2006.
