  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to paramedic certification;

  3         amending s. 401.27, F.S.; authorizing physician

  4         assistants who meet specified criteria to be

  5         certified as paramedics; providing an effective

  6         date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9  

10         Section 1.  Subsection (7) of section 401.27, Florida

11  Statutes, is amended to read:

12         401.27  Personnel; standards and certification.--

13         (7)  A physician, physician assistant, dentist, or

14  registered nurse may be certified as a paramedic if the

15  physician, physician assistant, dentist, or registered nurse

16  is certified in this state as an emergency medical technician,

17  has passed the required emergency medical technician

18  curriculum, has successfully completed an advanced cardiac

19  life support course, has passed the examination for

20  certification as a paramedic, and has met other certification

21  requirements specified by rule of the department. A physician,

22  physician assistant, dentist, or registered nurse so certified

23  must be recertified under this section.

24         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2007.
