  1                        Senate Resolution

  2         A resolution recognizing the role of

  3         associations in Florida's economy and

  4         proclaiming March 21, 2007, as "Associations

  5         Advance Florida Day."

  6  

  7         WHEREAS, associations originated with the guilds of

  8  medieval times and have developed into one of the largest and

  9  most powerful forces in the United States today, and

10         WHEREAS, associations are filled with people who find

11  strength in numbers and share common interests of industries,

12  professions, charities, hobbies, and philanthropic action, and

13         WHEREAS, associations are founded upon the principles

14  of democracy, volunteerism, and the common interest which are

15  at the heart of the American experience, and

16         WHEREAS, associations share the goals of helping their

17  members and advancing society, and

18         WHEREAS, associations represent an enormous collective

19  presence, their work is woven throughout the fabric of

20  society, and the public has come to depend on the social and

21  economic benefits that associations afford, and

22         WHEREAS, the estimate of the direct economic value of

23  associations to the State of Florida is over $1.2 billion

24  annually, including payroll, rent and mortgagee expenses,

25  transportation, printing, office supplies, postage, lodging

26  and facility accommodations, and educational programs, and

27         WHEREAS, the association community in Florida provides

28  nearly 50,000 professional positions and accommodates more

29  than 2 million meeting attendees, adding to nearly

30  three-quarters of hotel meeting revenue in the State of

31  Florida, and

 1         WHEREAS, associations pay nearly $100 million in taxes

 2  each year and association staff and members donate more than

 3  10 million hours of service to their associations and

 4  communities each year, NOW, THEREFORE,

 5  

 6  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

 7  

 8         That in recognition of the role of associations in

 9  Florida's economy, the Florida Senate proudly proclaims March

10  21, 2007, as "Associations Advance Florida Day."
