Senate Resolution

A resolution honoring University of Florida Quarterback

3

Timothy "Tim" Tebow on winning the Heisman Trophy, and

4

recognizing his athletic, academic, and other

5

achievements.

     WHEREAS, Tim Tebow was born on August 14, 1987, to Bob and

8

Pam Tebow, who instilled in him the importance of giving to and

9

serving others, and

10

     WHEREAS, he has been an inspiration both on and off the

11

football field, exhibiting character and compassion in his

12

missionary work in the Philippines, where he regularly visits

13

orphanages, and in his similar visits to hospitals in the United

14

States, and

15

     WHEREAS, Tim has maintained a 3.77 grade point average at

16

the University of Florida while becoming only the fourth

17

sophomore in the history of the university to earn first-team

18

Academic All-American honors, and

19

     WHEREAS, he played an integral role in the University of

20

Florida's National Collegiate Athletic Association's national

21

championship football team in 2006, and

22

     WHEREAS, in the 2007 season, Tim Tebow threw 32 touchdown

23

passes and ran for 23 touchdowns, earning a record as the first

24

player in major college football history to run for at least 20

25

touchdowns and pass for at least 20 touchdowns in the same

26

season, and

27

     WHEREAS, his total of 55 touchdowns, with 23 rushing

28

touchdowns, were both Southeastern Conference records, the latter

29

also a national collegiate record for quarterbacks, and

30

     WHEREAS, Tim completed more than 66 percent of his passing

31

attempts for a total of 3,286 yards this season, guiding Florida

32

to a 9 and 4 record as the team led the Southeastern Conference

33

in scoring and total yardage, and

34

     WHEREAS, on December 8, 2007, Tim Tebow became the first and

35

only sophomore ever to win the Heisman Trophy, college football's

36

most coveted and prestigious award, NOW, THEREFORE,

37

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

39

     That the Florida Senate commends Tim Tebow for his academic

41

and athletic accomplishments, recognizes him for his character

42

and compassion toward his fellow human beings, and congratulates

43

him on his historic recognition in being awarded the 2007 Heisman

44

Trophy.

45

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, with

46

the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Tim Tebow as a

47

tangible token of the sentiments of the Florida Senate.

48

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that additional copies of this

49

resolution be transmitted to University of Florida President J.

50

Bernard Machen and Head Football Coach Urban Meyer for

51

appropriate display.
