A resolution recognizing April 16, 2008, as "Truckers

Day in Florida."

     WHEREAS, Florida's economy depends on having a highly

6

efficient and reliable transportation system, and

7

     WHEREAS, the trucking industry is the backbone of the

8

state's economy and, as a leading mode of moving freight, the

9

trucking industry plays a vital role in advancing Florida's

10

prosperity, and

11

     WHEREAS, Florida's trucking industry safely performs vital

12

delivery and pickup of 70 percent of all freight moved in the

13

state, driving over 16 billion miles yearly to do so, serving

14

communities, schools, and businesses with dedication and without

15

fanfare every day, and

16

     WHEREAS, Florida's trucking industry provides more than

17

450,000 jobs and contributes over $17 billion in wages each year

18

to Florida's work force, and

19

     WHEREAS, the trucking industry's dedication to maintaining

20

high standards to keep Florida moving contributes to the strength

21

of our transportation system and reflects the spirit of Florida

22

and America, and

23

     WHEREAS, we are all indebted to the hard-working drivers who

24

embody a commitment to excellence, haul the loads, and make those

25

just-in-time deliveries, NOW, THEREFORE,

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

     That the Florida Senate acknowledges that without trucks

30

Florida stops, recognizes April 16, 2008, as "Truckers Day in

31

Florida," and applauds Florida's trucking industry for its

32

commitment to keeping Florida's economy rolling.
