A bill to be entitled

An act relating to amateur matches; amending s. 548.007,

3

F.S.; exempting amateur matches that are conducted or

4

sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Police and that are

5

held in conjunction with a charitable event from

6

provisions regulating pugilistic contests and exhibitions;

7

amending s. 548.035, F.S.; reducing the required fee per

8

event; providing an effective date.

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

     Section 1.  Section 548.007, Florida Statutes, is amended to

13

read:

14

     548.007  Applicability of provisions to amateur matches and

15

certain other matches or events.--With the exception of s.

16

548.008, ss. 548.001-548.079 do not apply to:

17

     (1)  A match conducted or sponsored by a bona fide nonprofit

18

school or education program whose primary purpose is instruction

19

in the martial arts, boxing, or kickboxing, if the match held in

20

conjunction with the instruction is limited to amateur

21

participants who are students of the school or instructional

22

program; or

23

     (2)  A match conducted or sponsored by any company or

24

detachment of the Florida National Guard, if the match is limited

25

to participants who are members of the company or detachment of

26

the Florida National Guard; or.

27

     (3) A match conducted or sponsored by the Fraternal Order

28

of Police, if the match is limited to amateur participants and is

29

held in conjunction with a charitable event.

     Section 2.  Subsection (2) of section 548.035, Florida

31

Statutes, is amended to read:

     548.035  Permit fees.--

33

     (2)  For mixed martial arts matches, the commission shall

34

require a minimum fee of $2,000 $5,000 per event. For purposes of

35

this section, an "event" is one or more matches comprising a

36

show.

     Section 3.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2008.
