A resolution recognizing the value of the United States'
human space flight program and the Kennedy Space Center
and acknowledging the magnitude of the loss of the human
space flight program on Florida's economy.

WHEREAS, every United States' orbital human space flight to
date has launched from Florida, and
WHEREAS, the United States' human space flight program is
scheduled to cease operations on September 30, 2010, and
WHEREAS, the cessation of our nation's human space flight
program will result in the loss of employment of thousands of
highly trained space flight employees in Florida, and
WHEREAS, Florida is home to thousands of suppliers and
service providers who will lose employment or vital income upon
cessation of the United States' human space flight program, and
WHEREAS, the next planned United States' human space flight
program is not scheduled to be in operation for at least 5
years, and
WHEREAS, a gap of 5 years in human space flight programs
will result in our nation's loss of highly specialized space-
faring skills due to the dispersion of the workforce, and
WHEREAS, both the United States and Florida have already
experienced economic devastation resulting from the abrupt
cessation of the Apollo Program and have learned from that
period of history, and
WHEREAS, other countries, some of which are hostile to the
United States, will have the opportunity during our nation's
human space flight program's gap to surpass the United States in
technological advances and the dominance of space exploration,
NOW, THEREFORE,

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
Florida:
