    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to the Department of Health; requiring
    3         the addition of severe combined immunodeficiency
    4         disease to the list of disorders for which newborn
    5         infants are screened by the Division of Children’s
    6         Medical Services Network of the department; amending
    7         s. 383.14, F.S.; requiring the department to bill
    8         third-party payors for certain newborn screening
    9         tests; providing an effective date.

   11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   12  
   13         Section 1. The Division of Children’s Medical Services
   14  Network within the Department of Health shall add severe
   15  combined immunodeficiency disease to the list of disorders for
   16  which newborn infants are screened.
   17         Section 2. Paragraph (h) of subsection (3) of section
   18  383.14, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
   19         383.14 Screening for metabolic disorders, other hereditary
   20  and congenital disorders, and environmental risk factors.—
   21         (3) DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH; POWERS AND DUTIES.—The department
   22  shall administer and provide certain services to implement the
   23  provisions of this section and shall:
   24         (h) Have the authority to Bill third-party payors for
   25  newborn screening tests.

   27  All provisions of this subsection must be coordinated with the
   28  provisions and plans established under this chapter, chapter
   29  411, and Pub. L. No. 99-457.
   30         Section 3. This act shall take effect July 1, 2011.
