Florida Senate - 2011 SM 1762 By Senator Smith 29-01217-11 20111762__ 1 Senate Memorial 2 A memorial to the Congress of the United States, 3 urging Congress to ban the sale, distribution, and 4 possession of methylenedioxypyrovalerone (MDVP). 5 6 WHEREAS, methylenedioxypyrovalerone (MDPV) is a 7 psychoactive drug with stimulant properties and has no history 8 of FDA-approved medical use, and 9 WHEREAS, MDPV acts as a stimulant and has been reported to 10 have amphetamine-like or cocaine-type effects, which include 11 physical rapid heartbeat, vasoconstriction, sweating, euphoria, 12 anxiety, agitation, perception of a diminished requirement for 13 food and sleep, and increases in alertness, awareness, 14 wakefulness, arousal, and blood pressure and 15 WHEREAS, Florida’s Attorney General has issued an emergency 16 order banning the sale of substances containing MDVP in the 17 state for a limited period, and 18 WHEREAS, federal action is needed to control MDVP and keep 19 it from entering this state from elsewhere, NOW, THEREFORE, 20 21 Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 22 23 That the Congress of the United States is urged to ban the 24 sale, distribution, and possession of methylenedioxypyrovalerone 25 (MDVP). 26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be 27 dispatched to the President of the United States, to the 28 President of the United States Senate, to the Speaker of the 29 United States House of Representatives, and to each member of 30 the Florida delegation to the United States Congress.
