House Resolution
2A resolution honoring the Florida National Guard and
3designating March 29, 2011, as "Florida National Guard
4Day" in the State of Florida.

6     WHEREAS, as the military arm of the Governor and the people
7of the State of Florida, in times of crisis or emergency the
8Florida National Guard stands ready to immediately respond to a
9call from the Governor, and
10     WHEREAS, tracing its roots to the first militia units of
11the United States formed in 1565 to protect St. Augustine, the
12Florida National Guard boasts approximately 12,000 highly
13trained and skilled men and women who serve as soldiers and
14airmen in today's modern guard, and
15     WHEREAS, the men and women of the Florida National Guard
16and their families willingly make sacrifices during times of
17hurricanes, fires, floods, and other natural disasters, and more
18than 10,000 members have responded to the call of active duty,
19serving domestically and around the world in the Global War on
20Terrorism, and
21     WHEREAS, in the largest deployment of the National Guard
22since World War II, the men and women of the Florida National
23Guard responded without reservation, serving with distinction
24and honor for Operation Noble Eagle, Operation Enduring Freedom,
25Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation New Dawn, truly an
26affirmation of the propriety of the recognition they so richly
27merit for their faithful and successful service and for the
28well-placed trust of the residents of this state, and
29     WHEREAS, the men and women of the Florida National Guard
30are currently involved in hundreds of community service projects
31across the state each day and also train or serve in numerous
32operations in the war on terrorism, upholding the Florida
33National Guard's mission to provide military units and personnel
34ready to support United States national security objectives;
35protect life and property; preserve peace, order, and public
36safety; and contribute to such national, state, and local
37programs that add value to the United States of America and the
38State of Florida, NOW, THEREFORE,

40Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
41Florida:

43     That in honor of the significant contributions and
44consistent readiness of the Florida National Guard and to
45gratefully acknowledge the faithful service of its dedicated
46soldiers and airmen, March 29, 2011, is designated as "Florida
47National Guard Day" in the State of Florida.
48     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
49presented to Major General Emmett R. Titshaw, Jr., Adjutant
50General of Florida, as a tangible token of the sentiments
51expressed herein.
