Florida Senate - 2012 CS for SB 1116 By the Committee on Health Regulation; and Senator Altman 588-03796-12 20121116c1 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to the human papillomavirus; requiring 3 information regarding the human papillomavirus, its 4 effects, and available vaccines to be provided to 5 parents or guardians of all children entering grade 6; 6 providing an effective date. 7 8 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 9 10 Section 1. Beginning with the 2012-2013 school year, the 11 parent or guardian of each student entering grade 6 shall be 12 provided information on the availability of vaccination against 13 human papillomavirus as recommended by the Centers for Disease 14 Control and Prevention Advisory Committee on Immunization 15 Practices (ACIP). Such information shall be approved by the 16 Department of Health for dissemination by the Department of 17 Education. The information will, at a minimum, include the 18 connection between the human papillomavirus and cervical cancer 19 as well as other cancers and diseases. The information must also 20 notify the parent or guardian that a vaccine is available to 21 help prevent human papillomavirus infection and that the vaccine 22 is recommended to be given before grade 7 entry. 23 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law.
