Medical benefits for massage services as 6 defined in s. 480.033 and acupuncture services as defined in s. 7 457.102 may be reimbursed under this section only if such 8 services are rendered by a licensed massage therapist as defined 9 in s. 480.033 or a licensed acupuncturist as defined in s. 10 457.102. Acupuncture services and massage services may be 11 reimbursed only if the patient is referred by a physician 12 licensed under chapter 458 or chapter 459 or a chiropractic 13 physician licensed under chapter 460. Acupuncture therapy and 14 massage therapy are covered only if they are components of a 15 treatment plan that is medically necessary and are not covered 16 in the absence of treatment or other therapeutic modalities 17 performed by the referring physician.
