    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution congratulating the St. Johns County
    3         School District and its teachers, staff, students, and
    4         parents for exemplifying commitment to the highest
    5         standards for lifelong learning through education.
    6  
    7         WHEREAS, the St. Johns County School District is accredited
    8  as a quality school system by the Council on Accreditation and
    9  School Improvement of the Southern Association of Colleges and
   10  Schools, and
   11         WHEREAS, the St. Johns County School District is comprised
   12  of 17 elementary schools, 1 K-8 school, 7 middle schools, 7 high
   13  schools, 2 alternative centers, 4 charter schools, including a
   14  vocational-technical college, and 3 juvenile justice facilities,
   15  and
   16         WHEREAS, the graduation rate of students in the St. Johns
   17  County School District is 93.3 percent, higher than the
   18  statewide average of 81.2 percent, and
   19         WHEREAS, the St. Johns County School District has a dropout
   20  rate of .8 percent, significantly lower than the statewide
   21  average of 1.9 percent, and
   22         WHEREAS, in the 8 years that the Florida Department of
   23  Education has compiled school district data based on Florida
   24  Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) scores, the St. Johns
   25  County School District has consistently set an example of
   26  excellence and continues to set a high bar for the K-12 public
   27  school system, and
   28         WHEREAS, based on FCAT scores, the Department of Education
   29  has ranked the St. Johns County School District as the top
   30  district in the state for the last 3 years in FCAT achievement,
   31  awarding it 25 “A”s and 6 “B”s in the 2010-2011 school year,
   32  alone, and
   33         WHEREAS, the mission of the St. Johns County School
   34  District is to inspire good character and a passion for lifelong
   35  learning in all students, creating educated and caring
   36  contributors to the world, and
   37         WHEREAS, given the outstanding performance of the students,
   38  teachers, staff, and parents of the St. Johns County School
   39  District, it exemplifies its mission with its commitment to
   40  education, NOW, THEREFORE,

   42  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

   44         That the members of the Senate congratulate the St. Johns
   45  County School District and its teachers, staff, students, and
   46  parents for exemplifying commitment to the highest standards for
   47  lifelong learning through education.
