    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution recognizing February 9, 2012, as “The
    3         Links, Incorporated Day” at the Capitol.
    4  
    5         WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated, with its mission and
    6  purpose of friendship through community service, is comprised of
    7  more than 12,000 women members, located in 42 states, the
    8  District of Columbia, and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, and
    9         WHEREAS, members of The Links, Incorporated, are women of
   10  African ancestry who are well-educated, highly skilled and
   11  trained, and capable of overcoming adverse conditions and
   12  fostering remedies that are critical to the well-being of
   13  society, such as the issue of Science, Technology, Education,
   14  and Mathematics (STEM) education and its affect on African
   15  American youth, and
   16         WHEREAS, working through its five functional facets,
   17  International Trends and Services, National Trends and Services,
   18  The Arts, Services to Youth, and Health and Human Services, The
   19  Links, Incorporated, relies heavily on the expertise of its
   20  professional members, including computer analysts, engineers,
   21  scientists, statisticians, and educators, who work in
   22  collaboration with other specialists to have a greater impact on
   23  society through relevant and creative initiatives, and
   24         WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated, will promote STEM
   25  activities and programs in an effort to close the achievement
   26  gap for minority children by targeting pre-K through college
   27  classrooms, encouraging and preparing students to attend
   28  colleges and universities that have STEM programs, expose
   29  students to STEM-related careers, and equip students with the
   30  skills to compete and excel in a global workforce that
   31  increasingly relies on individuals with STEM-related
   32  proficiencies, and
   33         WHEREAS, a host of “Links” representing the Southern Area
   34  of the organization, including many from this state, have
   35  converged on the Capitol to show their solidarity and support of
   36  STEM Education through arts and mentoring, NOW, THEREFORE,
   37  
   38  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
   39  
   40         That the Senate welcomes members of The Links,
   41  Incorporated, from the Southern Area and this state, who are
   42  passionate about STEM education and career readiness
   43  initiatives, and recognizes February 9, 2012, as “The Links,
   44  Incorporated Day” at the Capitol.
   45         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, with
   46  the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Eneid A.
   47  Francis, Southern Area director of The Links, Incorporated, as a
   48  tangible token of the sentiments of the Florida Senate for this
   49  organization’s efforts to create a better quality of life for
   50  the children of this state.
