GENERAL BILL by Health and Human Services Committee ; Community and Military Affairs Subcommittee ; Health and Human Services Access Subcommittee ; Roberson ; (CO-INTRODUCERS) Adkins ; Albritton ; Baxley ; Chestnut ; Kreegel ; Renuart ; Williams

Disposition of Human Remains; Revises procedures for reporting & disposition of unclaimed remains; prohibits certain uses or dispositions of remains of deceased persons whose identities are not known; requires that local governmental contracts for final disposition of unclaimed remains comply with certain federal regulations; revises procedures for anatomical board's retention of human remains before their use; provides for claims by, & release of human remains to, legally authorized persons after payment of certain expenses; authorizes county ordinances or resolutions for final disposition of unclaimed remains of indigent persons; limits liability of certain licensed persons for cremating or burying human remains; revises exceptions from requirements for notice to anatomical board of death of indigent persons; deletes requirement that DOH assess fees for burial of certain bodies; requires audits of financial records of anatomical board; authorizes certain facilities to dispose of human remains by cremation; revises provisions prohibiting selling or buying of human remains or transmitting or conveying of such remains outside state; excepts accredited nontransplant anatomical donation organizations from requirement for notification of & approval from anatomical board for conveyance of human remains for specified purposes; requires human remains received by anatomical board to be accompanied by certain permit; prohibits dissection, segmentation, or disarticulation of remains before approval by district medical examiner; prohibits offer of any monetary inducement or other valuable consideration in exchange for human remains; allows certain accredited schools & organizations to convey human remains within, into, or out of state for specified purposes; requires certain documentation before use of human remains received in state; provides exemptions for certain costs; repeals provisions relating to claims of bodies after delivery to anatomical board; revises list of donees who may accept anatomical gifts & purposes for which such gift may be used.
