House Comm: TP . 03/26/2015 . . . . ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— The Committee on Appropriations (Hays) recommended the following: 1 Senate Amendment 2 3 Delete lines 390 - 403 4 and insert: 5 (5) READING DEFICIENCY AND PARENTAL NOTIFICATION.— 6 (a) Any student who exhibits a substantial deficiency in 7 reading, based upon locally determined or statewide assessments 8 conducted in kindergarten or grade 1, grade 2, or grade 3, such 9 as the statewide kindergarten screening administered under s. 10 1002.69 and subsequent related reading readiness screening or 11 through teacher observations, must be given intensive reading 12 instruction immediately following the identification of the 13 reading deficiency. The student’s reading proficiency must be 14 reassessed by locally determined assessments or through teacher 15 observations at the beginning of the grade following the 16 intensive reading instruction. The student must continue to be 17 provided with intensive reading instruction until the reading 18 deficiency is remedied.
