Florida Senate - 2015 (NP) SR 1646 By Senator Gardiner 13-03463A-15 20151646__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution congratulating the Winter Park High 3 School Wildcats Special Olympics team on winning the 4 2015 Florida High School Athletic Association 5 Championship. 6 7 WHEREAS, the 2015 Winter Park High School Wildcats Special 8 Olympics team finished the season as the Florida High School 9 Athletic Association State Champions, and 10 WHEREAS, on February 26, 2015, the Winter Park Wildcats 11 defeated other unified basketball teams, which join people with 12 and without intellectual disabilities on the same team, and 13 WHEREAS, the tournament victory marked the team’s first 14 state championship in the first-ever unified basketball 15 tournament, the Wildcats emerging with a 4-0 record, and 16 WHEREAS, exhibiting exemplary leadership and guidance to 17 the team throughout the season were coaches Amy Connelly-Howard, 18 Carrie Allen, Deb Hammonds, and Brian DiCarlo, and 19 WHEREAS, outstanding skill, sportsmanship, and 20 competitiveness are characteristics that have been consistently 21 demonstrated by Wildcats Michael Rivera, Hector Machado, Autum 22 Heltemes, Michael Tuggle, Adam Wright, Ethan Smith, Mark Foust, 23 John Hotaling, Travis Jones, and Sean Foley, and 24 WHEREAS, the residents of Winter Park and the surrounding 25 community admire the hard work and team spirit demonstrated by 26 the 2015 Winter Park Wildcats Special Olympics Unified 27 Basketball team during the 2014-2015 season and commend the team 28 for its many accomplishments, NOW, THEREFORE, 29 30 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 31 32 That the 2015 Winter Park High School Wildcats Special 33 Olympics Unified Basketball team is congratulated for winning 34 the 2015 Florida High School Athletic Association Championship 35 and recognized for its athletic ability, sportsmanship, and 36 exemplary citizenship and the outstanding accomplishments of 37 both players and coaches.
