Florida Senate - 2017 (NP) SR 1782 By Senator Clemens 31-02451-17 20171782__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing April 1, 2017, as 3 “Dupuytren’s Disease Awareness Day” in Florida. 4 5 WHEREAS, Dupuytren’s disease, also known as Dupuytren’s 6 contracture, is one of a group of diseases resulting in fibrosis 7 or scar tissue which cripples hands, diminishes quality of life, 8 and affects the overall health of millions of people worldwide, 9 and 10 WHEREAS, more than 10 million people in the United States 11 suffer bent fingers from Dupuytren’s disease, which is more 12 common in men than in women and is hereditary, and 13 WHEREAS, part of the biology of Dupuytren’s disease 14 overlaps with that of other fibrotic conditions, including 15 cirrhosis of the liver, pulmonary fibrosis, arteriosclerosis, 16 and some cancers, and 17 WHEREAS, the most common treatments for Dupuytren’s disease 18 are open surgery and minimally invasive procedures, such as 19 injections, with most contractures returning after treatment, 20 and 21 WHEREAS, there is currently no cure for Dupuytren’s 22 disease, and scientists and physicians around the world are 23 conducting research to develop better treatments and to find a 24 cure, and 25 WHEREAS, increasing awareness and education of Dupuytren’s 26 disease may lead to significant progress in the research to 27 discover the root cause and the cure, NOW, THEREFORE, 28 29 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 30 31 That April 1, 2017, is recognized as “Dupuytren’s Disease 32 Awareness Day” in Florida.
