Florida Senate - 2017 (NP) SR 1804 By Senator Stargel 22-02965-17 20171804__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing the Florida Alliance of YMCAs 3 and celebrating 60 years of service of the Florida 4 YMCA Youth in Government program. 5 6 WHEREAS, the YMCA Youth in Government program was founded 7 in 1936 to give students nationwide the opportunity to serve as 8 part of a youth-run, youth-led model government process, and 9 WHEREAS, the Florida YMCA Youth in Government program was 10 founded in 1957 and, since that time, delegates have been 11 actively engaged with the issues that impact their families, 12 schools, YMCAs, and communities, and 13 WHEREAS, the founding principle of the Florida YMCA Youth 14 in Government program is servant leadership, and its model 15 government process is designed to prepare students for a life of 16 engaged and active citizenship built on the values of civil 17 debate, statesmanship, and research-based policy solutions, and 18 WHEREAS, the Florida YMCA Youth in Government program is 19 led by hundreds of teachers, students, and parents who volunteer 20 tens of thousands of hours of their time to ensure the success 21 of the program for the youth of this state, regardless of a 22 participant’s background or socioeconomic status, NOW, 23 THEREFORE, 24 25 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 26 27 That the outstanding work of the Florida Alliance of YMCAs 28 is recognized and 60 years of service of the Florida YMCA Youth 29 in Government program is celebrated. 30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, with 31 the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to the Florida 32 Alliance of YMCAs as a tangible token of the sentiments of the 33 Florida Senate.
