    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution recognizing February 15 and 16, 2018, as
    3         “Kappas at the Kapitol Days” in Florida.
    4  
    5         WHEREAS, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., is a public
    6  service organization founded on January 5, 1911, by 10 great men
    7  at Indiana University, in Bloomington, with the objective of
    8  uniting college men in a bond of fraternity, and
    9         WHEREAS, the fraternity is committed to its vow to make
   10  great achievements in all fields of human endeavor by providing
   11  resources and services to the community, and
   12         WHEREAS, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., is a brotherhood
   13  of college-educated men committed to executing the fraternity’s
   14  ideals through many valuable programs such as Guide Right, a
   15  national service program that provides high school and college
   16  students with educational and occupational guidance; Diamonds in
   17  the Rough, a national campaign that promotes the academic,
   18  social, and service-based achievements of young men of color;
   19  and the National Kappa League, a program that provides
   20  educational, occupational, and social guidance to male students
   21  in grades 6 through 12, and
   22         WHEREAS, for more than 100 years, Kappa Alpha Psi
   23  Fraternity, Inc., has provided exemplary service and support to
   24  local communities by leading dialogue on public policy issues,
   25  supporting quality education, and producing new projects to
   26  stimulate current and future economic growth, and
   27         WHEREAS, members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., are
   28  clearly focused and visible as corporate and civic leaders,
   29  respected public officials, acclaimed academicians, and
   30  activists in their own right, and
   31         WHEREAS, former Justice James E.C. Perry of the Florida
   32  Supreme Court; Senators Oscar Braynon II and Perry E. Thurston,
   33  Jr.; Representatives Clovis Watson, Jr., and Bobby B. DuBose;
   34  former Senators Dwight M. Bullard, Daryl L. Jones, Matthew J.
   35  “Matt” Meadows, and Leslie “Les” Miller; and former
   36  Representatives Edward B. “Ed” Bullard, Josephus Eggelletion,
   37  Jr., Edward L. “Ed” Jennings, Jr., Edwin Narain, and Alan B.
   38  Williams are esteemed members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity,
   39  Inc., and
   40         WHEREAS, Thomas L. Battles, Jr., the Grand Polemarch of
   41  Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., hails from the Southern
   42  Province, which includes Florida, and
   43         WHEREAS, on February 15 and 16, 2018, members of Kappa
   44  Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., representing Florida will converge
   45  in Tallahassee for “Kappas at the Kapitol Days,” NOW, THEREFORE,
   46  
   47  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
   48  
   49         That February 15 and 16, 2018, are recognized as “Kappas at
   50  the Kapitol Days” in Florida in recognition of the many
   51  contributions that the members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity,
   52  Inc., have made to this state.
