The Committee on Health Policy (Berman) recommended the
following:

4 and insert:
5 4. The membership of the council must reflect the ethnic
6 and gender diversity of this state.
7 (b) At least two of the members appointed to the council
8 must be physicians who supervise physician assistants in their
9 practice. Members shall be appointed to terms of 4 years, except
10 that of the initial appointments, two members shall be appointed
11 to terms of 2 years, two members shall be appointed to terms of
12 3 years, and one member shall be appointed to a term of 4 years,
13 as established by rule of the boards. Council members may not
14 serve more than two consecutive terms. The council shall
15 annually elect a chairperson from among its members. For any
16 given year, if the election of a chairperson ends in a tie vote,
17 the State Surgeon General shall select the chairperson from
18 among the council members.
19 Section 2. Paragraphs (a) and (b) of subsection (9) of
20 section 459.022, Florida Statutes, are amended to read:
21 459.022 Physician assistants.—
22 (9) COUNCIL ON PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS.—The Council on
23 Physician Assistants is created within the department.
24 (a) The council shall consist of six five members appointed
25 as follows:
26 1. The chairperson of the Board of Medicine shall appoint
27 two three members who are physicians and members of the Board of
28 Medicine. At least one of the physicians must supervise a
29 physician assistant in the physician’s practice.
30 2. The chairperson of the Board of Osteopathic Medicine
31 shall appoint one member who is a physician and a member of the
32 Board of Osteopathic Medicine.
33 3. The State Surgeon General or her or his designee shall
34 appoint three a fully licensed physician assistants assistant
35 licensed under chapter 458 or this chapter.
36 4. The membership of the council must reflect the ethnic
37 and gender diversity of this state.
