Senator Taddeo Joins Democratic Colleagues in Call to Expand the Special Session to Include Rental Relief
Governor DeSantis’ outright refusal to address the massive housing crisis has forced millions of Floridians to pay excessive rent and home insurance rate hikes. Not only has the Governor intentionally neglected this crisis and only called a Special Session after many calls to do so, but the Governor signed into law last year a bill that raised Citizens Insurance Premiums even more which in turn is reflected in an increase of rent for millions.
Since these two grave issues go hand in hand it is only right that our Governor expand the upcoming special session to address the current rental crisis faced across Florida. Senator Taddeo has joined her colleagues to call for an expansion of the Special Session to actually address this crisis and work to bring meaningful, market-based solutions and common-sense relief to homeowners and renters across the state.
Senator Annette Taddeo had this to say: “Florida has been named the least affordable state in the nation. While Governor Ron DeSantis was too busy fighting made up cultural wars during the regular legislative session, Floridians across our state have suffered. In an effort to save our taxpayers hard earned dollars it only makes sense that the upcoming special session addresses the ever growing rental crisis in addition to the proposed property insurance. It is our hope that we are able to mitigate and reduce costs for Floridians with this initiative as opposed to the last special session where Governor Ron DeSantis thought it was a good idea to increase Orange and Osceola county resident’s taxes by $2 billion.”
