Chairman Perry Holds Criminal Justice Committee Workshop on Amendment 4 Implementation
Criminal Justice Committee Chair, Keith Perry (R-Gainesville) hosted a workshop this morning with advocates, agencies and criminal justice officials to discuss the implementation of newly ratified Amendment 4.
Amendment 4 states that Floridians with prior felony convictions, excluding murder and sexual offenses, are now eligible to have their voting rights “restored upon completion of all terms of sentence including parole or probation.” Amendment 4 took effect January 8, with more than 64-percent voter support.
“Floridians have spoken, and we heard their overwhelming support for the restoration of voting rights loud and clear,” said Senator Keith Perry. “It was imperative that we answered the numerous calls for a collaborative discussion to ensure those affected by Amendment 4 are provided the most efficient and streamlined process possible when registering to vote.”
The Amendment 4 Workshop participants included: Florida Association of Court Clerks & Comptrollers; Florida Commission on Offender Review; Florida Department of Corrections; Florida Department of Law Enforcement; Florida Department of State; Florida Rights Restoration Coalition; and Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections.
