  2         An act relating to public health; amending s.

  3         381.0062, F.S.; revising the definition of

  4         "public consumption" for purposes of the

  5         supervision of specified public and private

  6         water systems by the Department of Health;

  7         providing an effective date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10

11         Section 1.  Paragraph (k) of subsection (2) of section

12  381.0062, Florida Statutes, 1996 Supplement, is amended to

13  read:

14         381.0062  Supervision; private and certain public water

15  systems.--

16         (2)  DEFINITIONS.--As used in this section:

17         (k)  "Public consumption" means oral ingestion or

18  physical contact with water by a person for any purpose other

19  than cleaning work areas or simple handwashing.  Examples of

20  public consumption include, when making food or beverages

21  available to the general public, water used for washing food,

22  cooking utensils, or food service areas and water used for

23  preparing food or beverages; hairwashing; showers; washing

24  surfaces accessed by children as in a child care center or

25  similar setting; washing medical instruments or surfaces

26  accessed by a patient; any water usage in health care

27  facilities; emergency washing devices such as eye washing

28  sinks; washing in food processing plants or establishments

29  like slaughterhouses and packinghouses; and water used in

30  schools.

  1         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

  2  law.
