  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to victim assistance; amending

  3         s. 960.001, F.S.; providing that the victim of

  4         a crime and the state attorney, upon the

  5         victim's consent, have standing to assert the

  6         rights of the victim; providing an effective

  7         date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11         Section 1.  Subsections (7) and (8) of section 960.001,

12  Florida Statutes, as amended by chapter 96-315, Laws of

13  Florida, are redesignated as subsections (8) and (9),

14  respectively, and a new subsection (7) is added to that

15  section, to read:

16         960.001  Guidelines for fair treatment of victims and

17  witnesses in the criminal justice and juvenile justice

18  systems.--

19         (7)  The victim of a crime and the state attorney, with

20  the consent of the victim, have standing to assert the rights

21  of a crime victim which are provided by law or s. 16(b), Art.

22  I of the State Constitution.

23         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

24  law.

      Provides that a victim of a crime and the state attorney,
29    with the consent of the victim, have standing to assert
      the rights provided by law or the State Constitution for
30    the crime victim.
