  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to postsecondary education;

  3         amending s. 240.1201, F.S.; classifying

  4         students taking certain courses at the Florida

  5         Emergency Training Facility as residents for

  6         tuition purposes; providing an effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10         Section 1.  Paragraph (k) is added to subsection (10)

11  of section 240.1201, Florida Statutes, 1996 Supplement, to

12  read:

13         240.1201  Determination of resident status for tuition

14  purposes.--Students shall be classified as residents or

15  nonresidents for the purpose of assessing tuition fees in

16  public community colleges and universities.

17         (10)  The following persons shall be classified as

18  residents for tuition purposes:

19         (k)  Students taking courses leading to the associate

20  in science degree in airport rescue and firefighting, or

21  related supplemental vocational certificate courses, at the

22  Florida Emergency Training Facility.

23         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1997.

      Provides that students taking courses related to airport
28    rescue and firefighting at the Florida Emergency Training
      Facility in Ocala shall be classified as residents for
29    tuition purposes.
