2 A memorial to the Congress of the United
3 States, urging Congress to provide a charity
4 tax credit for charitable contributions.

6 WHEREAS, the power of local charitable organizations is
7 the best conduit for improving a community's social problems
8 and conditions, and
9 WHEREAS, the objective of some charitable organizations
10 is to prevent or alleviate poverty, and
11 WHEREAS, contributions to charitable organizations that
12 include youth and family programs, housing and employment
13 agencies, and disaster relief agencies have declined by 3
14 percent in 1995, and
15 WHEREAS, the Charity Tax Credit, recently introduced to
16 Congress, will transfer power to charities in the local
17 communities through tax credits, vouchers, and grants, and
18 WHEREAS, the Charity Tax Credit would encourage
19 contributions to private and religious charities from both
20 individuals and couples to resolve social crises, alleviate
21 poverty, and improve community development among the
22 disadvantaged, NOW, THEREFORE,
23
24 Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
25
26 That the Congress of the United States is requested to
27 provide a charity tax credit for charitable contributions.
28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
29 dispatched to the President of the United States, to the
30 President of the United States Senate, to the Speaker of the
31
