17 Section 2. Effective June 1, 1999, paragraph (b) of
18 subsection (1) of section 232.01, Florida Statutes, is amended
19 to read:
20 232.01 Regular school attendance required between ages
21 of 6 and 16; permitted at age of 5; exceptions.--

23 (b) Any child who has attained the age of 6 years on
24 or before August 1 September 1 of the school year and who has
25 been enrolled in a public school or who has attained the age
26 of 6 years on or before August 1 September 1 and has
27 satisfactorily completed the requirements for kindergarten in
28 a nonpublic school from which the district school board
29 accepts transfer of academic credit, or who otherwise meets
30 the criteria for admission or transfer in a manner similar to
31 that applicable to other grades, shall progress according to

1 the district's pupil progression plan. However, nothing in
2 this section shall authorize the state or any school district
3 to oversee or exercise control over the curricula or academic
4 programs of nonpublic schools.
5 Section 3. Effective June 1, 2000, paragraph (b) of
6 subsection (1) of section 232.01, Florida Statutes, as amended
7 by section 1 of this act, is amended to read:

12 Section 5. Section 232.04, Florida Statutes, is
13 amended to read:
14 232.04 In kindergartens.--For the 1983-1984 school
15 year and thereafter, Children who will have attained the age
16 of 5 years on or before the date prescribed in this section
17 during September 1 of the school year shall be eligible for
18 admission to public kindergartens during that school year
19 under rules prescribed by the school board. For the school
20 year 1998, the child must have attained the age of 5 years on
21 or before August 1, 1998. For the school year 1999, the child
22 must have attained the age of 5 years on or before July 1,
23 1999. For the school year 2000 and thereafter, the child must
24 have attained the age of 5 years on or before June 1 of the
25 school year.
26 Section 6. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
27 law.
