  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to education; creating s.

  3         228.0561, F.S.; authorizing charter conversion

  4         municipal subdistricts; providing requirements

  5         for operation; providing for areas of municipal

  6         jurisdiction; providing an effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9

10         Section 1.  Section 228.0561, Florida Statutes, is

11  created to read:

12         228.0561  Charter conversion municipal

13  subdistricts.--Pursuant to s. 228.056, but notwithstanding s.

14  228.056(8)(h), upon majority vote of the eligible voters

15  voting and compliance with s. 228.056(3), a municipality or

16  municipalities may present to the district school board a

17  school or group of schools to be operated by a municipally

18  appointed charter school board. Unincorporated areas adjacent

19  to incorporated municipalities may be included in the area of

20  municipal jurisdiction for the purposes of this section if the

21  governing bodies of the municipality or municipalities and the

22  county in which the area is located agree on the boundaries of

23  such additional areas. Upon receipt of a request for a charter

24  municipal subdistrict in accordance with this section, the

25  district school board shall expeditiously authorize the

26  requested charter.

27         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1 of the

28  year in which enacted.
