  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to marriage; providing that

  3         same-sex marriages entered into in other

  4         jurisdictions are not recognized in this state;

  5         prohibiting the state and its agencies and

  6         subdivisions from giving effect to specified

  7         public acts, records, or proceedings respecting

  8         such relationships or claims arising from such

  9         relationships; providing an effective date.

11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13         Section 1.  (1)  Marriages between persons of the same

14  sex entered into in other jurisdictions, or relationships

15  between persons of the same sex which are treated as marriages

16  in other jurisdictions, are not recognized for any purpose in

17  this state.

18         (2)  The state, its agencies, and its political

19  subdivisions may not give effect to any public act, record, or

20  judicial proceeding of any other state, territory, possession,

21  or tribe of the United States respecting either a marriage or

22  relationship not recognized under subsection (1) or a claim

23  arising from such a marriage or relationship.

24         (3)  For purposes of interpreting any state statute or

25  rule, the term "marriage" means only a legal union between one

26  man and one woman as husband and wife, and the term "spouse"

27  applies only to a member of such a union.

28         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

29  law.
