  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the municipality of Gulf

  3         Breeze, Santa Rosa County, and Escambia County;

  4         providing for law enforcement jurisdiction on

  5         the Bob Sikes Bridge; authorizing the

  6         municipality of Gulf Breeze, Santa Rosa County,

  7         and Escambia County to exercise law enforcement

  8         jurisdiction over the entire length of the

  9         bridge; providing an effective date.

11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12

13         Section 1.  The municipality of Gulf Breeze, located in

14  Santa Rosa County, and the Counties of Santa Rosa and

15  Escambia, shall have and each is hereby granted, concurrent

16  law enforcement jurisdiction on the Bob Sikes Bridge, said

17  bridge connecting the two counties of Escambia and Santa Rosa

18  over a body of water known as the Intracoastal Waterway, and

19  shall be authorized to exercise the arrest power granted to

20  municipalities and counties over the entire length of the

21  bridge.

22         Section 2.  When a person violates a municipal or

23  county ordinance or commits a misdemeanor within Escambia

24  County, or when any law enforcement officer of Escambia County

25  has reasonable grounds to believe that a person found within

26  Escambia County has committed or is committing a felony, law

27  enforcement officers of Escambia County may, in fresh and

28  continuous pursuit, whenever necessary to effect the arrest of

29  such person, pursue such person outside of Escambia County to

30  any point within a radius of 1 mile within Santa Rosa County

  1  from the north end of the Bob Sikes Bridge and there arrest

  2  him.

  3         Section 3.  When a person violates a municipal or

  4  county ordinance or commits a misdemeanor within the corporate

  5  limits of the municipality of Gulf Breeze, or when any law

  6  enforcement officer of Gulf Breeze or Santa Rosa County has

  7  reasonable grounds to believe that a person has committed or

  8  is committing a felony, law enforcement officers of the

  9  municipality of Gulf Breeze or Santa Rosa County may, in fresh

10  and continuous pursuit, whenever necessary to effect the

11  arrest of such person, pursue such person outside of the

12  municipality of Gulf Breeze or Santa Rosa County to any point

13  within a radius of 1 mile within Escambia County from the

14  south end of the Bob Sikes Bridge and there arrest him.

15         Section 4.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

16  law.
