  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to school-entry health

  3         requirements; amending s. 232.0315, F.S.;

  4         requiring a school-entry vision examination;

  5         providing an effective date.

  7  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  8

  9         Section 1.  Subsection (1) of section 232.0315, Florida

10  Statutes, is amended to read:

11         232.0315  School-entry health examinations.--

12         (1)  The school board of each district and the

13  governing authority of each nonpublic school shall require

14  that each child who is entitled to admittance to

15  prekindergarten or kindergarten, or is entitled to any other

16  initial entrance into a public or nonpublic school in this

17  state, present a certification of a school-entry health

18  examination and a certification of a school-entry vision

19  examination and analysis performed within 1 year prior to

20  enrollment in school.  The school board of each district, and

21  the governing authority of each nonpublic school, may

22  establish a policy which permits a student up to 30 school

23  days to present a certification of the examinations a

24  school-entry health examination.  Any school board which

25  establishes such a policy shall include provisions in its

26  local school health services plan to assist students in

27  obtaining the health examinations.  However, any child shall

28  be exempt from the examinations requirement of a health

29  examination upon written request of the parent or guardian of

30  such child stating objections to such examination on religious

31  grounds.

  1         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1998.
