2 An act relating to school-entry health
3 requirements; amending s. 232.0315, F.S.;
4 requiring a school-entry comprehensive vision
5 examination; providing an effective date.

7 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

9 Section 1. Subsection (1) of section 232.0315, Florida
10 Statutes, is amended to read:
11 232.0315 School-entry health examinations.--
12 (1) The school board of each district and the
13 governing authority of each nonpublic school shall require
14 that each child who is entitled to admittance to
15 prekindergarten or kindergarten, or is entitled to any other
16 initial entrance into a public or nonpublic school in this
17 state, present a certification of a school-entry health
18 examination and a certification of a school-entry
19 comprehensive vision examination and analysis performed within
20 1 year prior to enrollment in school. The school board of
21 each district, and the governing authority of each nonpublic
22 school, may establish a policy which permits a student up to
23 30 school days to present a certification of a school-entry
24 health examination and up to 120 school days to present a
25 certification of a school-entry comprehensive vision
26 examination and analysis. Any school board which establishes
27 such a policy shall include provisions in its local school
28 health services plan to assist students in obtaining the
29 health examinations. However, any child shall be exempt from
30 the examinations requirement of a health examination upon

1 written request of the parent or guardian of such child
2 stating objections to such examination on religious grounds.
3 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 1998.

8 The Committee Substitute specifies that the vision exam
required for school entry must be a comprehensive exam and
9 gives students up to 120 school days to present certification
of the exam.
