Florida Senate - 1998 (NP) SR 158 By Senator Forman 32-18A-98 1 Senate Resolution No. 2 A resolution commending the osteopathic 3 physicians of this state and recognizing March 4 24, 1998, as Osteopathic Medicine Day. 5 6 WHEREAS, osteopathic physicians offer health care 7 services to more than 10 percent of the population, primarily 8 in the area of primary care, and 9 WHEREAS, osteopathic physicians provide primary care 10 services to their patients in more than 84 million patient 11 visits in this country each year, and 12 WHEREAS, this state has 10 accredited osteopathic 13 hospitals, an osteopathic medical college, and the fourth 14 largest osteopathic physician population in the United States, 15 and 16 WHEREAS, osteopathic manipulation of the 17 musculoskeletal system is a viable and proven technique for 18 many diagnoses and treatments and provides an alternative to 19 many drug therapies, and 20 WHEREAS, osteopathic physicians provide comprehensive 21 medical care, including preventive medicine, diagnoses, and 22 the appropriate use of drugs, surgery, manipulation, and 23 hospital referrals, NOW, THEREFORE, 24 25 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 26 27 That the Florida Senate commends the osteopathic 28 physicians of this state for their contributions to the health 29 and welfare of the residents of this state and recognizes 30 March 24, 1998, as Osteopathic Medicine Day. 31 1
