  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to license plates; amending ss.

  3         320.08056, 320.08058, F.S.; creating an Adopt

  4         Greyhounds license plate; providing for the

  5         distribution of annual use fees received from

  6         the sale of such plates; providing a contingent

  7         effective date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11         Section 1.  Paragraph (s) is added to subsection (4) of

12  section 320.08056, Florida Statutes, 1996 Supplement, to read:

13         320.08056  Specialty license plates.--

14         (4)  The following license plate annual use fees shall

15  be collected for the appropriate specialty license plates:

16         (s)  Adopt Greyhounds license plate, $20.

17         Section 2.  Subsection (19) is added to section

18  320.08058, Florida Statutes, 1996 Supplement, to read:

19         320.08058  Specialty license plates.--

20         (19)  ADOPT GREYHOUNDS LICENSE PLATES.--

21         (a)  The department shall develop an Adopt Greyhounds

22  license plate as provided in this section. The word "Florida"

23  must appear at the top of the plate, and the words "Adopt

24  Greyhounds" must appear at the bottom of the plate.

25         (b)  The annual use fees shall be distributed in equal

26  amounts to the American Greyhound Council to provide funds for

27  food and shelter for greyhounds, to the Friends of Greyhounds

28  to support greyhound adoption awareness programs and

29  advertising campaigns, and to the Florida Greyhound

30  Association to fund an annual Breeder's Cup.

  1         Section 3.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1997,

  2  but it shall not take effect unless it is enacted by at least

  3  a three-fifths vote of the membership of each house of the

  4  Legislature.
