  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to enterprise zones; amending

  3         s. 290.0055, F.S.; authorizing certain charter

  4         counties to apply to enlarge the boundary lines

  5         of an enterprise zone within the county under

  6         certain conditions; providing for approval of

  7         the application under certain conditions;

  8         providing an effective date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11

12         Section 1.  Subsection (7) is added to section

13  290.0055, Florida Statutes, 1996 Supplement, to read:

14         290.0055  Local nominating procedure.--

15         (7)  Before June 30, 1998, the governing body of any

16  county operating under home rule charter adopted pursuant to

17  s. 10, s. 11, or s. 24, Art. VIII of the Constitution of 1885,

18  as preserved by s. 6(e), Art. VIII of the Constitution of

19  1968, with a population of at least 2 million persons, may

20  apply to the Office of Tourism, Trade, and Economic

21  Development to amend the boundary lines of an enterprise zone

22  within the county for the purpose of increasing the

23  noncontiguous area of the enterprise zone located closest to

24  the path where the center of the August 24, 1992, storm known

25  as Hurricane Andrew crossed land. The Office of Tourism,

26  Trade, and Economic Development shall approve an application

27  made pursuant to this subsection if it is consistent with the

28  categories, criteria, and limitations imposed by this section

29  upon the establishment of such enterprise zone.

30         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

31  law.
