1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to education; authorizing a
3 pilot program to promote school readiness for
4 preschool children; requiring an evaluation and
5 study; providing an effective date.

7 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

9 Section 1. The Commissioner of Education may create a
10 pilot program to promote school readiness for children ages 2
11 to 5. The program must be provided through an existing early
12 childhood program such as the prekindergarten early
13 intervention program, the Head Start program, the Title I
14 program, a subsidized child care program, or a private child
15 care program. The pilot program shall provide education for
16 parents of preschool students in order to foster parental
17 support for their children's success in school and in life.
18 Section 2. The Department of Education shall conduct
19 an annual evaluation of the program to assess the children's
20 progress and a longitudinal study to document the achievement
21 of the students in elementary school.
22 Section 3. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
23 law.
