1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to education; authorizing a
3 pilot program to promote school readiness for
4 preschool children; requiring an evaluation and
5 study; authorizing the use of certain funds;
6 providing an effective date.

8 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10 Section 1. The Commissioner of Education may create a
11 pilot program to promote school readiness for children ages 2
12 to 5. The pilot program must be provided through an existing
13 early childhood program such as the prekindergarten early
14 intervention program, the Head Start program, the Title I
15 program, a subsidized child care program, or a private child
16 care program. The pilot program shall provide education for
17 parents of preschool children in order to foster parental
18 support for their children's success in school and in life.
19 Section 2. The Department of Education shall conduct
20 an annual evaluation of the pilot program to assess the
21 children's progress and a longitudinal study to document the
22 achievement of the students in elementary school.
23 Section 3. From federal funds appropriated to the
24 Department of Education, up to $150,000 may be expended to
25 fund the pilot program.
26 Section 4. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
27 law.
