1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to regulation of the medical
3 professions; amending s. 458.311, F.S.,
4 relating to licensure by examination;
5 authorizing persons in certain training
6 programs to take the examination under certain
7 circumstances; providing an effective date.

9 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11 Section 1. Subsection (10) is added to section
12 458.311, Florida Statutes, 1996 Supplement, to read:
13 458.311 Licensure by examination; requirements;
14 fees.--
15 (10) Notwithstanding any other provision of this
16 section, the department shall examine any person who meets the
17 criteria set forth in sub-subparagraph (1)(f)1.a.,
18 sub-subparagraphs (1)(f)3.a. and b., or subsection (3), if the
19 person:
20 (a) Submits proof of successful completion of steps I
21 and II of the United States Medical Licensing Examination or
22 the equivalent, as defined by rule of the board;
23 (b) Is participating in an allocated slot in an
24 allopathic training program in this state on a full-time basis
25 at the time of examination;
26 (c) Makes a written request to the department that he
27 or she be administered the examination without applying for a
28 license as a physician in this state; and
29 (d) Remits a nonrefundable administration fee not to
30 exceed $50 and an examination fee not to exceed $300 plus the
31 actual cost per person to the department for the purchase of

1 the examination from the Federation of State Medical Boards of
2 the United States or a similar national organization. The
3 examination fee is refundable if the person is found to be
4 ineligible to take the examination.
5 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 1997.

Authorizes and provides requirements for certain medical
10 residents participating in an allopathic training program
to take the examination for licensure to practice
