  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to election boards; amending s.

  3         102.012, F.S.; authorizing any person who is

  4         preregistered and otherwise qualified to be

  5         appointed and serve as a member of an election

  6         board; providing an effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9

10         Section 1.  Subsection (2) of section 102.012, Florida

11  Statutes, is amended to read:

12         102.012  Inspectors and clerks to conduct elections.--

13         (2)  Each member of the election board shall be able to

14  read and write the English language and shall be a registered

15  qualified elector of the county in which the member is

16  appointed or a person who has preregistered to vote, pursuant

17  to s. 97.041(1)(b), in the county in which the member is

18  appointed.  No election board shall be composed solely of

19  members of one political party; however, in any primary in

20  which only one party has candidates appearing on the ballot,

21  all clerks and inspectors may be of that party.  Any person

22  whose name appears as an opposed candidate for any office

23  shall not be eligible to serve on an election board.

24         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1 of the

25  year in which enacted.
