2 An act relating to road construction; requiring
3 road contractors to carry business interruption
4 insurance to cover businesses that lose
5 revenues because of delays in completion of a
6 road construction contract; providing an
7 effective date.

9 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11 Section 1. Any person rendering professional road
12 construction services to the Department of Transportation or
13 any local governmental entity shall carry business
14 interruption insurance to compensate any business that loses
15 revenue because of delays in the completion of a road
16 construction contract. Payment for business losses under the
17 business interruption insurance may only be made when the
18 department or the local governmental entity finds the losses
19 to be excessive and unreasonable.
20 Section 2. This act shall take effect October 1, 1997.
