14         On page 4, between lines 9 and 10,

16  insert:

17         Section 2.  Toll-free crime victim assistance number.--

18         (1)  The Crime Victims' Services Office of the

19  Department of Legal Affairs shall establish a statewide,

20  toll-free telephone number that is available for use by a

21  crime victim, relative of a homicide victim, or witness of a

22  crime to obtain information concerning the status of the

23  person convicted of the crime. The toll-free telephone number

24  shall be available during working hours. The Crime Victims'

25  Services Office shall distribute information regarding the

26  toll-free telephone number to the Department of Corrections,

27  the Parole Commission, the Department of Law Enforcement, the

28  state attorneys, and local law enforcement agencies.

29         (2)  The toll-free telephone number shall also be

30  available for use by a crime victim, relative of a homicide

31  victim, or witness of a crime to inform the Crime Victims'

 1  Services Office of any change of address. The Crime Victims'

 2  Services Office shall provide the updated address information

 3  to the Department of Corrections, the Parole Commission, the

 4  Department of Law Enforcement, the appropriate state attorney,

 5  and the appropriate local law enforcement agencies. At least

 6  once every 6 months, the Crime Victims' Services Office shall

 7  verify the address and telephone number of each victim,

 8  relative, or witness who wishes to be kept informed of the

 9  status of the person convicted of the crime.
