  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to safety standards for

  3         cheerleaders; creating s. 232.433, F.S.;

  4         requiring that the State Board of Education

  5         adopt statewide uniform safety standards for

  6         student cheerleaders; specifying the standards

  7         to be adopted; providing an effective date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11         Section 1.  Section 232.433, Florida Statutes, is

12  created to read:

13         232.433  Safety standards for cheerleaders.--The State

14  Board of Education shall adopt statewide uniform safety

15  standards for student cheerleaders and spirit groups that

16  participate in any school activity or extracurricular student

17  activity. The State Board of Education shall adopt the

18  "Official High School Spirit Rules," published by the National

19  Federation of State High School Associations, as the statewide

20  uniform safety standards.

21         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1997.
